LORD GOD MUZICK (Heart Beat Records Records 1991)
Si alguien ha innovado en la música jamaicana hasta la saciedad y ha practicado todas las vertientes y posibilidades de los sonidos que surgieron a partir del Ska, ese es sin lugar a dudas Lee Perry. Este álbum tiene su origen en la exitosa gira que dio por toda europa el 'grillado' (scratch) Perry en 1990. Dicho éxito le inspiró sobremanera y ni corto ni perezoso se metió en el Studio One jamaicano en diciembre de dicho año y en unos días dio a luz este nuevo éxito musical. Este álbum es una ocasión excepcional para descubrir hasta dónde puede llegar el genio musical de este monstruo. No se trata del Dub que le hizo famoso, ni del Ska de sus comienzos, y desde luego el Reggae que tenemos en este disco no tiene nada que ver con otro Reggae que se hubiera podido escuchar antes. Sonidos espaciales, efectos imposibles, vocalistas venidos de otras dimensiones y locura, mucha locura son los elementos que rodean la base rítmica de los temas que encontramos en el disco. Es difícil describir con palabras lo que se siente al escuchar esta sucesión de efectos, pero desde luego que la sensación es mejor que óptima.
Son en total 12 temas que en otras ediciones del disco (como la titulada "Reggae Emporor") se ven aumentados por algún corte extra. En el disco colaboran entre otros el genial bajista y hoy día líder de los Wailers, Aston 'Family Man' Barrett o los Upsetters Jr.
La verdad es que muchísimos grupos tan famosos hoy día por utilizar sonidos electrónicos (y os aseguro que se ocurren muchísimos) deberían agacharse y hacer reverencias ante la figura del 'hombre supersónico' que se les adelantó hace 10 años. Ojalá tengamos 'grillado' para muchos años más y si hay que quemar algún estudio que otro para ello, pués se queman y punto.
